The service – known as Meta Verified – will be rolled out in Australia and New Zealand this week. The subscription bundle for Instagram and Facebook also includes extra protection against impersonation.
Meta Verified will cost $11.99 (£9.96) a month on web, or $14.99 for iPhone users.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta chief executive, said the move will improve security and authenticity on the social media apps.
With the subscription service, users will get a blue badge, extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you and direct access to customer support.Apart from this, Meta Verified users will have increased visibility and reach. Meta will give verified users prominence in some areas of the platform like search, comments and recommendations.

According to Meta, users will have to meet minimum activity requirements in order to be eligible for the paid subscription. Prior posting history and being at least 18 years old are some of them.
The users will have to apply directly from their account and they will be required to submit a government ID.
